Fish have been used in decorative motifs since primitive times. Their prolific nature symbolizes fertility and vitality. The word "fish" also sounds like "yu," meaning "surplus," signifying abundance. The entire quilt is composed of auspicious animal, plant, and object motifs. The surrounding patterns are complemented by twin dragons playing with a pearl and auspicious dragon and phoenix motifs, symbolizing auspiciousness and peace.
