The "Lotus Pond and Kingfisher" inside-painted snuff bottle represents the pinnacle of Qin School inside-painting art, embodying the four characteristics of moisture (run), transparency (tou), precision (jing), and elegance (ya). The inside-painting technique can be broken down into four steps:
Step 1: Base Color Application
Using a specially crafted bent-hook brush dipped in light colors, apply paint on the inner wall of the bottle in reverse. Use wet brush techniques to blend the green and yellow base colors of the lotus pond, allowing water and color to merge and create a misty atmosphere. This creates natural transitions in the base color, establishing a transparent and hazy sense of space.

Step 2: Outline Drawing
Once the base color is slightly dry, use dark ink with a fine brush to outline the lotus stems and leaf veins. The brushwork should be vigorous and decisive, with distinct variations in line thickness. This not only provides structural support for the painting but also uses dry brush techniques to convey the weathered texture of the lotus stems.
Step 3: Subject Coloring
Apply cinnabar red to color the lotus flowers, using contrasting color techniques to create natural gradients at the petal edges. Then use fine brushes to separately render the petal textures. For the kingfisher, layer blue and red colors to depict the feathers, while using pointed brushes to precisely描绘 the beak and claws with upright, powerful lines that fully capture the bird's lively posture.
Step 4: Detail Refinement
Finally, use light colors to lightly sweep in the water surface reflections, and use extremely fine brushwork to dot in the lotus stamens and the kingfisher's eyes. The brush marks are hidden within the colors, showing no trace of craftsmanship. This allows the方寸 space to display both the precision of fine brushwork and the charm of freehand brushwork, fully revealing the transparent essence of inside-painting art.
The transparent quality of the bottle wall makes the colors appear as if immersed in water, moist and vivid. The brush marks are concealed between the colors, showing no trace of craftsmanship, fully displaying the unique charm of Qin School inside-painting: moisture, transparency, precision, and elegance.
