Wu Changshuo (1844-1927) was a versatile master of poetry, calligraphy, painting and seal carving. He was a leading figure in the Shanghai School of Chinese painting. His work represents the culmination of traditional Chinese literati art. He excelled in flower-and-bird painting, particularly peonies and narcissi. His calligraphy and seal carving were also highly regarded.
