Gong Chun (c. 1500s) is considered the founder of Yixing zisha (purple clay) teapot making. He was a servant who learned pottery from a monk. His teapots were known for their simple, rustic elegance and natural forms. He is credited with elevating Yixing teapot from utilitarian objects to works of art. His work 'Gong Chun Hu' (Gong Chun teapot) is considered a masterpiece.
